Insurance carriers have approved a cementitious fireproofing material which is sprayed or toweled onto wire mesh over clean, painted steel surfaces. Most common uses of this high-density fireproofing is to outdoor structures including vessel skirts, tank I-beam legs, and any critical structural steel. The majority of applications are in refineries, petrochemical plants, liquid gas plants or wherever fire is a risk. The final result is a hard, firmly bonded fireproofing system, giving protection up to four hours (depending on thickness) in a real fire situation.
