Dust-free removal of old paint on large diameter tank

Due to the age and deterioration of the existing coatings the City of Apple Valley, Minnesota was required to rehabilitate existing coatings on their 4 million gallon ground storage tank. TMI received a contract from the City of Apple Valley for the sandblasting and painting of this tank.

Since the tank was located in a high traffic area with close proximity to neighbors, a complex containment system would normally be required to contain the sandblast sand and abide by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) regulations.

TMI successfully completed the job with our VACU-BLASTER, which provided the City with the most economical option for paint removal.

The fully-enclosed recyclable grit unit removes the paint with no emissions, at a faster rate than conventional sandblasting methods, and reduces the amount of contaminated waste for which the City is responsible. Both the interior and the exterior of the tank were completed with our VACU-BLASTER on schedule to the satisfaction of the owner.

Lead Paint Removed From Windy City Tanks

Rochester, Minnesota is known for the Mayo Clinic, its high quality of life, and for being the fourth windiest city in the continental United States.

TMI contracted with the City of Rochester to remove the lead paint from the exterior of their four water tanks. Three are located in neighborhoods and one is located in a shopping mall parking lot. The shopping mall tank is a “golf ball on a tee” style, holding 500,000 gallons of water and towering 175′ tall. TMI completed removing lead paint from the tanks and met all of Minnesota’s stringent pollution control requirements with its own containment system. This contract (in the $1,000,000 range) was completed safely, on time, and within budget.
