The air and ground surrounding 17 LP tanks and related equipment were successfully protected from contamination from lead paint removed by sandblasting by TMI Coatings at several propane sites around the Twin Cities and suburban areas.
Impermeable ground covers and sealed enclosures were erected around work areas to contain all dust and contaminated special sandblast grit.
Workers entered and left the work area through a series of rooms designed for their protection and to prevent them from transferring any contaminated dust outside of the work area on their clothing or skin. To enter the jobsite, workers entered a room where they removed their street clothes, entered a shower room and from there entered another room where they dressed in disposable work suits. On leaving the jobsite, they entered the room where they were "vacuumed" under air blowers, removed and left their work clothes, entered the shower and washed off all possible clinging dust, then entered the room where they could again dress in their street clothes.
Blood testing of workers prior to and on completion of the project showed no change in lead content, proving protective measures were successful. Soil testing confirmed the successful containment of lead contamination. |
