A Midwest dairy plant with 19 tanks, ranging in size from 25’ high to 59’
high, plus some horizontal tanks as well, were a collection of both white
and beige tanks added to their plant over the years. They were ready to
have a uniform appearance on all tanks. Caution was taken by TMI to protect
their vehicles in the plant parking lot (car covers were utilized) and all
tank exteriors were pressure washed to clean. Rusted areas were hand tool
cleaned – severe rust was removed by brush sandblasting. Both lifts and
bosun chairs were used to access all areas of the tanks. Due to the
proximity of the vehicle parking lot, TMI chose to brush and roll the
tank exteriors. A high gloss urethane was chosen in white, which has
excellent color retention.

TMI Coatings performed protective coating work on three dust
collectors, structural steel and catwalks at Mycogen Seeds in
Marshalltown, Iowa. TMI performed pressure washing to thoroughly
clean all dust collectors and catwalks. The steel was sandblasted
to clean and roughen further creating an anchor pattern for new
paint adhesion. All steel was primed with a rust-inhibitive metal
primer before applying a direct-to-metal paint coating material
suitable for industrial environments.
As a SSPC QP 1 and SSPC QP 2 qualified contractor, TMI has met the
strict requirements of the SSPC Industrial Hazard Paint Removal. This
is an intense certification program, costly and requiring ongoing information
submittal, annual reviews, and site visits by SSPC (The Society of Protective
Coatings). QP 1 certification is a nationally recognized program that
evaluates the practices of industrial painting contractors in key areas
of business. The QP 2 certification evaluates the capabilities of industrial
paint contractors for their ability to safely remove and properly manage
hazardous coating material in the field. QP 2 builds on the standards and
guidelines of QP 1 to further qualify the industrial contractor company
in hazardous paint removal operations. TMI has the competence, experience,
and ability to complete any complex project.
