Insurance carriers have approved a cementitious fireproofing material which is sprayed or troweled onto wire mesh over clean, painted steel surfaces. Most common uses of applying this high-density coating to structures outdoors include vessel skirts and supports, tank I-beam legs and any critical structural steel. The majority of applications are in refineries, petrochemical plants, liquid gas plants or wherever a fire risk is a potential concern. The final result is a hard, firmly bonded fireproofing system, giving protection up to four hours (depending on thickness) in a real fire situation.
