Methods of Surface Preparation

Degrease To remove grease and oil from substrate.
Acid Etch Older technology; however, still used to neutralize concrete. Concrete is an alkaline material and by acid etching, the floor is neutralized.
Shotblast Dust-free removal of old floor coatings without damaging the concrete surface. Also used on new concrete to clean and roughen for maximum flooring adhesion.
Grind Hard-to-reach areas (around columns equipment legs, perimeter walls, etc.) where the shotblaster can’t reach are hand ground with vacuum shrouded 4” to 7” grinder or TMI walk behind diamond grinder unit (pictured above) with 5 independent rotating heads for old floor coating removal. This unit is ideal for large (greater than 3,000 sq .ft. ) concrete floors to remove mastics, thin-set, heavy mil coatings and high spots. It has a variable speed drive which is especially helpful when the floor has been previously coated.
Machine Sand Large, walk-behind 30-inch sanding discs with varying degrees of coarseness are used to prepare concrete substrates
